Gov. Neil Abercrombie announced Tuesday the release of $2.8 million for renovation projects on Hawaii Island as part of a larger $9.2 million allotment of capital improvement funds to upgrade and improve state hospital facilities and fund water treatment projects across the state.

“These funds will help renovate and maintain facilities that are dedicated to the health and safety of Hawaii’s people,” Abercrombie said.
Included in the allotment were construction funds to renovate HMC’s acute hospital patient rooms, bathrooms and office spaces.
“Water is leaking from patient bathrooms, as a result of cracked shower tiles, into the rooms and walls creating a potentially hazardous environment for patients, visitors and workers,” reads a Tuesday afternoon press release.
In addition, the governor released $1 million in construction funds to renovate the entire Kohala Hospital, including parking lot renovations, updating the electrical system and hot water system, and removing the old incinerator.
